WHO WE ARE...

 Our Achievements

Since its founding in 1992, the American Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology has been a unifying source for information regarding the fields of Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology.  Over the last few years, we have achieved significant milestones, including having the Journal of Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology become indexed on Index Medicus, having IP Fellowship programs become part of the National Residency Match Program, running twice-yearly scientific symposium and developing and implementing the first Board Certification Exam in Interventional Pulmonology.

Our Organization

Georgie A. Eapen at the University of Texas is the current President of the AABIP. Septimiu Murgu at the University of Chicago is serving as Vice President of our organization and Carla Lamb at Beth Israel Lahey Health is Secretary Treasurer. Along with the Board of Directors, we will work hard to assure that membership in the AABIP is a worthwhile experience.  We actively seek input from our general membership, and would be happy to hear from anyone who would like to contribute to our organization.

Membership in the AABIP is not just for physicians. We have a very enthusiastic Affiliate’s Forum made up of nurses, respiratory therapists, and technicians involved in pulmonary interventional procedures. We also offer reduced rate membership for fellows and residents.  Please encourage your support staff and fellows to become involved!

When you join the AABIP, you will become a society-based member of the World Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology (WABIP).

Our Journal

The Journal of Bronchology & Interventional Pulmonology is the official journal of the AABIP. Dr. Udaya B.S. Prakash was the founder, first Editor in Chief of the JOB and the founding president of the AAB.  In 2009, the Journal changed names to the Journal of Bronchoscopy and Interventional Pulmonology in order to more fully encompass our broadening field.  David Ost is the current Senior Editor.  With the efforts of Claretha Bradford, the associate editors, and reviewers, the Journal has witnessed significant expansion in the number and quality of submitted original investigations.  We encourage you to support the Journal and the field of Bronchoscopy and Interventional Pulmonology by submitting your relevant research.  Submission guidelines can be found at: www.bronchology.com.

Our Symposium

The biennial Scientific Symposium of the American Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology has been a tremendous success over the last two years, and is held during the ATS and ACCP conferences.  This symposium highlights presentations of research in progress, completed projects as well as up and coming collaborative ideas. Presenters have included fellows, junior and senior faculty and turnout has been outstanding.  The agenda for the next symposium, to be held in Denver during ATS will be posted under the events section of our website, and we encourage you to present your ideas (more info to follow).  Additionally, the Annual Scientific Meeting of the AABIP is held as a post-graduate course during the ACCP Annual Conference.  The officers encourage input from the membership regarding future programs and the mission of the AABIP.

What We Offer

Upcoming meetings and courses are posted on the website, and we are working hard to provide our members with increased enduring content, such as presentations, journal clubs, and the ability to solicit nominations and vote on-line in a confidential manner.  IP fellowship programs are also listed on this website, and we are working closely with the Interventional Pulmonology program directors to further IP Fellowship training.

We hope that your visit to this website will stimulate your interest in Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology. If you are not a member of the AABIP, we hope you will join the ranks and become involved in the organization. If you are already a member, we hope this visit will prove useful to your practice, inspire research, and further collaboration with colleagues.
